Shoreline Highway Vegetation Mitigation Update

Post Date:10/31/2024 11:31 AM

The Southern Marin Fire District is thrilled to announce the successful completion of our Evacuation Route Fuel Reduction project along Shoreline Highway.  This project, funded through a direct allocation grant from the California Office of Emergency Management, was designed to address fire threats along key evacuation routes in the state.

Southern Marin Fire District's primary goal was to reduce fire-prone ladder fuels such as non-native vegetation, including invasive species such as Broom, mitigating hazards related to Eucalyptus trees and the thinning of other non-natives.  Our efforts also included the meticulous pruning of native trees, the strategic thinning out of brush to promote healthy growth, the systematic removal of invasive vines, and clearing the area of dead and fallen vegetation.  This project, which significantly enhances the community's evacuation safety.

Southern Marin Fire District would like to thank our partners for their support at CalTrans, Tamalpais Community Services District, and Land Revision. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Southern Marin for their patience and cooperation during the project. Your support has been instrumental in making this project a success.
