Southern Marin Fire District (SMFD) welcomed fire officials from across Marin County, SMFD personnel, and community members to Hauke Park for a live demonstration of Pivotal’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The morning began with a briefing from Pivotal officials, who introduced the aircraft’s capabilities, safety features, and emerging applications for public safety and emergency response. Attendees learned how eVTOL technology is being evaluated for use in wildfire reconnaissance, search and rescue, and rapid deployment scenarios.
Following the presentation, guests gathered for a live flight demonstration. Pivotal’s team successfully launched, hovered, and landed the single-seat aircraft—offering a dramatic, up-close look at its stability, control, and versatility in tight or rugged environments.
After the flight, participants engaged with the interactive flight simulator, which allowed them to experience the aircraft from the pilot’s point of view. Firefighters, agency officials, and community members took turns navigating a virtual flight path, observing how the aircraft handles in real time and how its intuitive controls translate to potential field use.
The event highlighted growing interest in advanced aerial mobility among public safety agencies and built on Pivotal’s recent tech demonstrations across California.
“Today’s event was an opportunity to imagine what’s possible,” said SMFD Fire Chief Chris Tubbs. “We’re grateful to Pivotal for showcasing their innovation in Southern Marin and to all the agency partners and community members who came out to see the future of aerial response.”
