Stock Up on Sandbags Before the Storms Hit
As the rainy season approaches, the Southern Marin Fire District urges all residents to take proactive steps to protect their homes and properties. One of the simplest and most effective preparedness measures is to stock up on sand and sandbags before storms arrive.
A short video tutorial is available to show residents how to properly fill and place sandbags for best protection against runoff and minor flooding.
Where to Get Sand and Sandbags
Sand and bags can be purchased year-round at most local hardware stores. Limited emergency stockpiles are also available for residents of the following communities:
Mill Valley
Fire Station #7, 1 Hamilton Drive
Boyle Park, 47 Thalia Street
Intersection of Molino Drive and Cascade Drive
Sausalito
Corps Yard, 530 Nevada Street
MLK / Park School, 610 Coloma Street
Strawberry & Alto
Miland Drive (first left off Seminary near 7-Eleven). Sand located next to the fire road gate, approximately 500 feet up the hill on the left
Tam Valley
Tennessee Valley Road at Marin Avenue, across from TCSD
Tiburon
Blackie’s Pasture
Please note: These community stockpiles are intended for emergency use only. Residents must bring their own shovels and labor. Sand and bag supplies may be limited and may not be replenished immediately during active storm events, as public works crews will prioritize life and safety operations.
