Resuscitation Academy Brings Life-Saving Training to Marin County

Post Date:02/23/2026

Marin County hosted the nationally recognized Resuscitation Academy through the leadership and partnership of Marin Health and Human Services on February 11 & 12, 2026. The program, focused on improving cardiac arrest survival through evidence-based practices, brought together first responders from across the county, including EMS providers, dispatchers, fire chiefs, firefighters, and medical directors.

Fire personnel representing multiple Marin agencies and ranks participated in the collaborative, system-focused training.

The Resuscitation Academy emphasizes proven, data-driven strategies to strengthen cardiac arrest response systems. Sessions highlighted high-performance CPR, structured system evaluation, and the widely recognized “10 Steps” framework to improve outcomes, optimizing the entire chain of survival from dispatch to definitive care.

Chris Tubbs, Fire Chief of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District, noted that bringing the Resuscitation Academy to Marin marks a significant step forward in strengthening cardiac arrest survival and improving outcomes countywide.

Key partners helped make the program possible, including Marin County LEMSA Director Chris Le Baudour and team, Medical Director Dustin W. Ballard, the San Francisco Fire Department and Rescue Captain Jeff Covitz, and retired Seattle Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Norm Nedell, who teaches the program nationwide.

By aligning agencies around consistent, evidence-based practices, the training strengthens emergency response across Marin County. When responders train together, the entire community benefits.
