Southern Marin Fire District crews assisted on a vegetation fire in the Marin Headlands early Monday morning, March 23, within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
At approximately 1:30 AM, firefighters were dispatched to an area above Kirby Cove near Conzelman Road. Crews faced steep and challenging terrain while working to access the fire and establish containment. Forward progress was stopped at approximately 2:50 AM, limiting the fire to an estimated 100 by 50 feet.
Fire personnel remained on scene until approximately 5:15 AM, conducting mop-up operations and monitoring for hotspots to prevent any potential reignition.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Marin County Fire served as the lead agency for this incident. Southern Marin Fire District appreciates the swift, coordinated response from all personnel involved, which helped prevent further spread. Assisting agencies included Marin County Fire, Southern Marin Fire, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Tiburon Fire, and Central Marin Fire.
