MILL VALLEY – Last week, Southern Marin Fire District personnel trained alongside regional partners from Tiburon Fire Protection District, Ross Valley Fire Department, Central Marin Fire Department, and Marin County Fire Department during confined space training and recertification exercises at the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM).
Confined space rescue training prepares firefighters to safely operate in hazardous and highly technical environments involving permit-required confined spaces, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation techniques, retrieval systems, rescue equipment, and advanced rescue procedures.
These environments are everywhere and can often be deceptive, for example an attic or crawl space can meet the definition of a confined space. These same rope rescue, rigging, repelling, and technical access skills are regularly utilized by our personnel along Marin’s rugged coastline and steep terrain. Maintaining these certifications also allows our firefighters to support specialized rescue operations and mutual aid responses throughout the region and beyond when needed.
Multi-agency exercises strengthen regional coordination, communication, and operational readiness while ensuring crews remain prepared to respond safely and effectively.
A special thank you to Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM) for the continued partnership and use of their facilities to support this important regional training opportunity.
