It's Not Raining—So Why Is It Flooding?

Southern Marin residents may notice minor flooding along the shoreline this week, even without any rain. A combination of unusually high tides, a New Moon, and the Moon's close proximity to Earth is causing water levels to rise above normal through June 17.

A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for low-lying areas near the bay, where flooding may impact waterfront parking lots, pathways, docks, and roadways, particularly during late evening and overnight high tides.

Southern Marin Fire District encourages residents and visitors to:

• Avoid parking in flood-prone areas.
• Never drive through flooded roadways or around barricades.
• Use caution near flooded pathways and shoreline areas.
• Secure belongings in low-lying locations.
• Monitor local weather and tide forecasts.

Beachgoers should also be aware of hazardous coastal conditions, including strong rip currents, sneaker waves, and waves reaching farther up beaches than expected.
