Mill Valley, CA — On June 16, 2026 Southern Marin Fire District crews responded to a vehicle accident on Panoramic Highway involving a single vehicle that had gone approximately 300 feet over the side of the roadway.

Upon arrival, firefighters were flagged down by a witness and hiked down the steep terrain to assess the scene. Crews located one patient trapped inside the vehicle who was going in and out of consciousness.

Firefighters initiated a complex rescue operation involving both vehicle extrication and technical rope rescue. Crews used specialized extrication equipment to remove the patient from the vehicle while additional personnel established a rope rescue system to safely raise the patient up the hillside to the roadway.

Once rescued, the patient was transferred to awaiting medical personnel and transported to a local hospital.

The incident required a coordinated response involving Southern Marin Fire District, Marin County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Marin County Sheriff's Office, and REACH Air Medical Services.

Southern Marin Fire District reminds motorists to use caution while traveling on winding mountain roadways and remain alert to changing road and weather conditions.
