Southern Marin Fire District crews responded to a vegetation fire at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, along Seminary Drive below 161 Chapel Drive.

Upon arrival, crews encountered an approximately one-third acre fire burning in grass and mixed brush, moving uphill at a slow rate of spread. One nearby apartment complex was identified as threatened, and resources were assigned to structure defense and perimeter control to protect residents and property.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive offensive attack and were able to stop the forward progress of the fire within approximately 30 minutes. Steep terrain presented access challenges for crews working around the fire area.

The fire was contained at approximately 1:51 a.m. The affected apartment buildings were occupied at the time, and residents were advised to shelter in place by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Southern Marin Fire personnel.

 

The incident was managed with a low vegetation fire dispatch response, supplemented by two additional engines. Assisting agencies included Southern Marin Fire District, Tiburon Fire Protection District, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol.

 

No injuries have been reported. Crews remain on scene conducting mop-up operations, patrol, and hand line reinforcement to ensure full containment. Southern Marin Fire District’s investigation team members will be responding to determine the cause of the fire.
