SMFD and Mill Valley Fire units responded to two fire incidents yesterday. At approximately 0700, units made an aggressive stop to a fire in the attic of a single family dwelling at 164 Tamalpais Dr. in Mill Valley. The house was vacant and undergoing a remodel. The cause appeared to be faulty electrical wiring. Mill Valley Building Department was advised. The fire was contained and extinguished with first alarm units.
At approximately 1400 hours SMFD and Mill Valley Fire units responded to a vehicle fire that extended to the vegetation on Mt Tamalpais. The forward progress was slowed with assistance from Cal Fire Aircraft. Two fixed wing aircraft dropped a total of 4 loads of retardant coupled with multiple water drops from the helicopter. Ground units cut containment lines and completed the extinguishment. The fire was contained to less than an acre. Marin County Fire assumed command and control of the incident. They continued to have units on the scene throughout the night.
Both of the incidents demonstrated the value of automatic and mutual aid agreements as they both had great potential to have become larger scale events.
With the exception of retardant covered apparatus and personnel, there was no reported damage to equipment or injury to any personnel.
Thank you to all our partnering fire and safety agencies.
